Repurpose a Sleep Sack into a Cute Pillow

The cute baby sleep sack is no longer used my now rambunctious toddler. Still a favorite, I could not just get rid of it so I repurposed it into a fuzzy pillow.

Repurpose a Crib Fitted Sheet into a Pillowcase

Since we no longer use the crib fitted sheets, I decided it was time to repurpose them in some way. They did not get much wear to begin with and they were in perfect shape.
I turned them into colorfull pillowcases.

Crochet a Toy Basket

This is a very simple basket crocheted in the half double crochet stitch. It is basically crocheted just like a hat (a very big hat). I used a smaller hook to make the basket more stiff.

I started with ten loops and I increased every row until I had 120 loops.
First row I increased for every loop, second row I increased every other loop, third row I increased every third loop, and so on until I had the desired size.

The next step is only going round and round in a circle crocheting the half double crochet stitch.

When I had the desired size, I made two handles and the basket was ready to fill with toys.

How to Repurpose a Baby Activity Mat

I still had this activity mat from Fisher Price. It was quite enjoyed for a while, when my daughter was a baby. It snowed one day and I could not find the snow rug for wet shoes. I did find the baby activity mat and I thought to myself "hey, I could use this as a temporary snow rug!".

I put a rug pad underneath to prevent it from sliding and voilà ...

My Knitted Hat

Original Decor for a Little Girl's Room

This décor is very inexpensive and really fun and unique.

With a few flower buttons that I already had in my sewing kit (leftover from another project) I created I wreath on my daughter's bedroom door.

Make your own Magnetic Pictures for the Fridge

Looking at my door fridge, I was so bothered by the mess I was seeing: pictures, vacation magnets, drawings, all cluttered on top of each other.

I decided it was time my fridge looked neat and uncluttered. I wanted to display pictures I love in a clean way so I can enjoy them.

1. Cut the self-adhesive magnet into the size of the picture.

2. Peel off the paper from the back of the magnet to reveal the sticky side. Stick the picture on the back of the magnet.

4. Display the new magnetic pictures for a nice, clean, and uncluttered look.

Crochet Basket

How to Repurpose a Crochet Hat into a Basket

I've crocheted this hat myself a while ago for my daughter. I does not fit her anymore but I still wanted to keep it so I thought of turning it into a basket for her hair bows.

1. I found a mixing bowl approximately the size of the hat.

2. I fitted the bowl neatly with the hat.

3. I soaked the hat with a mixture of two parts Elmer glue (the kind that dries clear) and one part water.

4. I let the hat dry thoroughly and then I removed it gently (in hindsight, I little plastic wrap over the bowl, underneath the hat, would have been a good ideal).

Fun Door Draft Stopper

A little knitting can solve the draft problem. It is easy and fun to knit, and it is even more fun to impress your friends with it.

For filling the door draft stopper I chopped up some leftover recycled t-shirts. The recycled cotton heavy enough to weigh down the draft stopper in place.

The Toy Box

This is a great idea to entertain curious toddlers.

Gather all kind of interesting objects from the miscellaneous drawer (deemed to be safe for toddlers, of course) and put them in a small plastic drawer box.

It makes wonders for a toddler!

Repurpose Stuffed Toys into a Draft Stopper

My daughter's old baby stuffed toys are no longer favourites. I still want to keep them around as keepsakes. I noticed that the playroom's door was quite drafty so I decided to repurpose the stuffed toys into a draft stopper.

This is a very easy and super fast DYI project.

1. Gather stuffed toys that are no longer favourites.

2. Charge the glue gun and start putting them together. (I guess sawing them quickly by hand would also work.)

3. Place the new draft stopper in to prevent the cold draft from coming in.

I would suggest using this draft stopper only on tile so it would slide easily when the door is open and closed.

Baby Memory Quilt

Using my daughter's old baby clothes, I made a precious keepsake quilt.
I have pictures with her wearing most of the outfits sewn in the quilt.

1. I selected the clothes. I chose those my daughter wore the most. They were the most loved and we still remember her wearing them.

2. I cut them out into squares and rectangles, trying to preserve the most important part of the garment. I was not to keen on making every piece the same size.

3. I sewed the pieces together by hand. A very laborious job but very meaningful. With every stitch, wonderful moments with my daughter as a baby came to mind:

- she wore the 'Girls Rock' shirt when she got her first tooth
- she wore the 'I (heart) My Dad' on her first Father's Day
- she wore the 'My 1st Boo' shirt for her first Halloween
- she wore the orange 'I Love My Mom' shirt when she did her first crawl on the floor
- she wore the purple butterfly shirt when she took her first steps
- the song 'Rain, Rain Go Away' is still her favorite

The quilting is also done by hand. I did not want to interfere with the pictures so I just quilted around every patch to secure it onto the batting. Nothing to complicated since this is the second quilt I ever made.

Repurpose a Diaper Bag into a Sewing Kit

The BabyBjörn diaper bag I had for my daughter when she was a baby was very useful. It is very well compartmentalized, you can find a place for everything.

I always said that I will repurpose it and use it as a sewing kit.
