How to Repurpose a Crochet Hat into a Basket

I've crocheted this hat myself a while ago for my daughter. I does not fit her anymore but I still wanted to keep it so I thought of turning it into a basket for her hair bows.

 

1. I found a mixing bowl approximately the size of the hat.

2. I fitted the bowl neatly with the hat.

3. I soaked the hat with a mixture of two parts Elmer glue (the kind that dries clear) and one part water.

4. I let the hat dry thoroughly and then I removed it gently (in hindsight, I little plastic wrap over the bowl, underneath the hat, would have been a good ideal).



Fun Door Draft Stopper

A little knitting can solve the draft problem. It is easy and fun to knit, and it is even more fun to impress your friends with it.

For filling the door draft stopper I chopped up some leftover recycled t-shirts. The recycled cotton heavy enough to weigh down the draft stopper in place.

  

The Toy Box

This is a great idea to entertain curious toddlers. 

Gather all kind of interesting objects from the miscellaneous drawer (deemed to be safe for toddlers, of course) and put them in a small plastic drawer box.

 

 

It makes wonders for a toddler!



Repurpose Stuffed Toys into a Draft Stopper

My daughter's old baby stuffed toys are no longer favourites. I still want to keep them around as keepsakes. I noticed that the playroom's door was quite drafty so I decided to repurpose the stuffed toys into a draft stopper.

This is a very easy and super fast DYI project.

1. Gather stuffed toys that are no longer favourites.

2. Charge the glue gun and start putting them together. (I guess sawing them quickly by hand would also work.)

3. Place the new draft stopper in to prevent the cold draft from coming in.

I would suggest using this draft stopper only on tile so it would slide easily when the door is open and closed.

Baby Memory Quilt

Using my daughter's old baby clothes, I made a precious keepsake quilt.

I have pictures with her wearing most of the outfits sewn in the quilt.

1. I selected the clothes. I chose those my daughter wore the most. They were the most loved and we still remember her wearing them. 

2. I cut them out into squares and rectangles, trying to preserve the most important part of the garment. I was not to keen on making every piece the same size. 

  

 

3. I sewed the pieces together by hand. A very laborious job but very meaningful. With every stitch, wonderful moments with my daughter as a baby came to mind: 

- she wore the 'Girls Rock' shirt when she got her first tooth

- she wore the 'I (heart) My Dad' on her first Father's Day

- she wore the 'My 1st Boo' shirt for her first Halloween

- she wore the orange 'I Love My Mom' shirt when she did her first crawl on the floor

- she wore the purple butterfly shirt when she took her first steps

- the song 'Rain, Rain Go Away' is still her favorite

The quilting is also done by hand. I did not want to interfere with the pictures so I just quilted around every patch to secure it onto the batting. Nothing to complicated since this is the second quilt I ever made.

Repurpose a Diaper Bag into a Sewing Kit

The BabyBjörn diaper bag I had for my daughter when she was a baby was very useful. It is very well compartmentalized, you can find a place for everything.

I always said that I will repurpose it and use it as a sewing kit.

Repurposed and Upcycled Baby Shoes

 

This is a pair of baby shoes size 4 that my sister gave my daughter as a gift. She only wore them a couple of times until they become too small for her. I wanted to save them as keepsakes but I also wanted to continue to use them in some way. They are very pretty ballerina shoes and they deserve to be displayed.

     

With a little imagination and some double sided foam tape I repurposed the baby shoes into crayons holders.

I taped the sole of the shoe to the wall using good quality double sided foam tape. It holds very well and, at the same time, the shoes can always come off the wall. The tape that I used peels off very easily without living any marks on the wall or the shoes.  

  

  

How to Repurpose a Baby Bib



This idea came to me when I needed a shower caddy for my daughter's shampoo, wash cloth, and rubber duckies. Coincidently, the same day I de-cluttered the kitchen cupboards and I noticed this cute bib made of plastic that my daughter never really liked. I punched a few holes at the bottom of the pouch (for the water to drain) and it became an instant shower caddie that brightens the room.

In less than 10 minutes I made a nice vintage picture decoration.

1. I started with a painting canvas and a picture printed on regular paper

 

 

 

2. I added 1 teaspoon Elmer glue to a 1/2 cup water

 



 

3. I applied the glue mixture to the canvas until it was quite saturated



 

4. I put the printed paper on top of the canvas and I dabbed the picture lightly with a paper towel until it stuck to the canvas
 



 

5. For a vintage effect, I tore off the edges of the paper

 





  

The grains of the canvas show through the paper creating the effect of a real painting.
